Hands-On Activity #1: Drawing

Items Needed:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Crayons, Markers or Colored Pencils

Draw a picture of the Computer System you are using. Be sure to include all of the computer-related items on the desk in front of you. If you are at school, you may only be able to see the monitor, keyboard and mouse. If you are at home, your picture might include a printer, scanner or other items.

After your drawing is complete, label the items.

Hands-On Activity #2: Design your own Computer System

Items Needed:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Magazine or Newspaper with computer pictures

Find a magazine or newspaper with pictures of computers and accessories. Sale papers from computer stores are an excellent source. Be sure to ask permission before you cut up the paper!

Cut out pictures of items that you would like to include in your computer system. Do you want a scanner or digital camera? Would you prefer a mouse or a trackball? Glue the pictures on to a sheet of paper to design your own computer system. If you can't find a picture of an item you want, you can draw it yourself.

If you feel very creative, you can even draw a desk and work area for your system.
