The "people" of Summer Camp
Ever wonder who takes care of everything at camp? Although roles and responsibilities are usually dispersed through hundreds of people, most camps employ some or most of the following capacities:
Camp Director
The ultimate responsibility of the Camp Director is to maintain the goals, objectives and policies of the camp. The director, in many cases, is the person in charge of the day-to-day operations of the camp.

Associate Camp Director
The role of the Associate Camp Director is to aid the director in the day to day operations of the camp. The associate director is often the liaison between the director and the rest of the staff.
Program Director
The Program Director is in charge of the "special" camp programs. These include organizing evening, rainy day, all day, half day and wake-ups. Often the program director will work closely with the unit heads to establish programs relevant to each particular unit. The Program Director will report to the Director or Associate Director.
Senior Activity Counselor / Activity Head
The Senior Activity Counselor or S.A.C is responsible for all of the activities at camp. He/she will oversee the activity heads and make sure that each and every activity in camp is operating to its full capacity. Any problem at an activity will be brought to the attention of the S.A.C. The S.A.C will report any further problems to the Director or Associate Director.
Unit Heads
The role of the Unit Head is to oversee their counseling staff and all of the campers within their particular unit. The unit heads will often work closely with the program director and assist in the special programming for the rest of the camp. The unit heads will also deal with any related camper issues within their unit. All unit heads typically report to the Director and/or Associate Camp Director.
Activity Heads
The role of the activity head is to insure that his/her particular activity is running smoothly and meets the expectations of the camp. Each head is responsible for his/her own staff. In most cases, the activity heads will report directly to the S.A.C.
Counseling Staff
The counseling staff are, perhaps, the most important and influential staff in camp. In most cases, the counselors live with the campers and travel with them to activities. The counselors ultimate responsibility is to lead the campers in all aspects of camp. The counseling staff report directly to the unit head.
