Searching for Summer Camps, Specialty camps and Special Needs Camps

Camp fires, great friends, fun activities, a few insect bites, and a lifetime of experiences await. Going to camp is one of the most incredible experiences of a child's life, there are many choices and considerations to make.

Before selecting a camp, speak to your camper. Ask your child what they would really like to do. Make a small checklist of activities and go through them, one by one. When it comes time to speak

with your camps of choice, you will be able to tell the camp director exactly what you are looking for in terms of activities.

If your child has any special requirements, personal, medical or other, make sure to disclose everything to the appropriate people at camp. It is critical that the camp director, counselors and support staff are well informed of your campers essential needs. There are many camps specifically structured and developed for campers that have existing special needs such as ADD, ADHD, medication or food allergies. Many camps now support integration which accommodates both special needs and mainstream campers in the same program.

Another great way to alleviate the stress of searching for a summer camp is to search in pairs. Ask one of your camper's friends if they are also interested in going to camp. Perhaps the searching process can be conducted with friends and families. This also ensures that your camper arrives at camp with a friend in hand.

All in all the camp director of any camp you choose is your best resource and best contact. They can answer any questions, concerns or special requirements you may have. Ask lots of questions, and have a great summer!
