What types of organizations operate summer camps?
Although you will find many different organizations run summer camp programs, including Scouts, YMCA/YWCA, YMJA, they can all be categorized as follows:
Private Camps
Individuals, groups of individuals or private organizations operate the camp. In some cases, the camp is operated as the full time or, in some cases, the principal source of income for the owner. Consequently, the philosophy,

Municipality-Sponsored
Many municipalities operate a camp programs within or parallel to their recreation program. Typically, these programs are of a day camp nature on sites available throughout the community (schools, conservation areas, recreation complexes). Always speak to the camp director before attending camp.
Agency-Sponsored
A wide variety of social services and publicly funded organizations maintain a camping program as an extension of the service which they offer their community. Often, campers and parents who utilize the other services of the agency will turn to it again for their camp experiences. Always speak to the camp director before attending camp.
Religiously Affiliated
Camps operate programs as an extension of their community work. In some cases, religious studies are incorporated into portion of the daily program. Often it may simply represent staff commitment and the philosophy of the program delivered. Always speak to the camp director before attending camp. CCI - Christian Camping International, The Jewish Federation of Camps, Bnai Brith are all examples of religiously affiliated camps.
