Chanukah Candles and Candleholders

Children will surely make short work of this Chanukah (Hanukkah) candleholder craft made from baby food jars.
What you'll need:
- 8 small baby food jars; washed and dried
- 1 large baby food jar; washed and dried
- (16mm to 18 mm) clear flat glass marbles (about 3-4 bags or use sand)
- 9 blue taper candles (or you can use Hanukkah candles)
- Silver "Painters" paint marker
- Blue "Painters" paint marker
- Scrap of paper
- Pencil
How to make it:
- Use the silver paint marker to draw the Star of David on each candle. Make sure you make the star the same height on each candle.
- Draw the Star of David on a piece of paper that will be the size of the interior wall of the small baby food jar.
- Tear the paper down to a bit larger than the size of the star.
- Place the paper inside the wall of the baby food jar. Hold the paper in place.
- Use the blue paint marker to trace the star on the jar. Note: If you can freehand this, you can bypass this step and the previous 3 steps.
- Let dry.
- Hold a taper candle in a small baby food jar.
- Fill the surrounding area with the glass marbles. Make sure the candle stands straight by rearranging the marbles, if necessary.
- Repeat for the remainder of the small jars.
- Take the tall jar and fill halfway with marbles. Note: This will allow this candle to be higher than the other candles.
- Place the taper candle on top of the marbles.
- Fill the surrounding area with the glass marbles. Make sure the candle stands straight by rearranging the marbles, if necessary.
- Arrange your candles and candleholders on your table. Make sure the decorative sides of each are facing you.
- Enjoy your holiday!
Tips:
- You can use regular marbles, glass marbles, or even sand to hold your candles in place. You can even use candles made specifically for Chanukah in place of the ones we show in the picture.
- These flat marbles are found generally in the floral department of your local craft store. They are made of glass and used in floral arrangements and in aquariums. We have seen the marbles in clear, in a range of colors, including frosted marbles.
- Note: Unless you use dripless candles, you will have wax dripped on your marbles. You could cut some clear acetate to fit in the top of the baby food jar with a hole in the middle to hold the candle. The acetate could be cleaned off easily.
