Children can make pop-up cards, pop-out decorations or garlands out of this Hanukkah paper dreidel craft.

What you'll need:

  • Pattern (below)
  • Construction paper
  • Crayons, markers
  • Ribbon if you want to make a garland
  • Tape
  • Craft glue

How to make it:

Read all the directions before starting, so you can decide which projects you will be doing.

Step 1 - Print the pattern

Print this pattern of dreidel shapes. Decide which shape you'll use.

Step 2 - Color

Color the dreidels you will be using.

Step 3 - Cut

Cut out the dreidel shapes around the outside lines. If you will be making a garland, you can cut off the glue tabs on either side.

For the Garland

Glue the dreidels to construction paper to make them sturdier, cut out again.

Tape the dreidels to the ribbon, leaving some space between each dreidel. You can also cut out Star of David shapes and alternate dreidels and stars.

For a Pop-Up Card

Fold a piece of construction paper in half to make the card.

Write your message on the front of the card.

Make sure that the dreidel you pick is smaller than half the card when flat.

Fold the dreidel in half along the center line. Fold each of the tabs back.

Carefully put a thin line of glue on the center of the tabs.

Open the card and position the dreidel so that the center folds match up, and the dreidel and the card are laying flat.

Close the card halfway to let the dreidel pop-up, and allow the glue to dry.

Write the rest of your message inside the card!

For the Pop-Out Wall Decoration

Take a piece of construction paper for the background.

Fold the dreidel in half along the center line. Fold each of the tabs back.

Adjust the center fold so that the dreidel is sticking out as far as you'd like.

Write your message onto the paper, working around the spot where the dreidel(s) will be attached.

Carefully place a thin line of glue on the center of the dreidel tabs.

Position your dreidel(s) onto the paper.

Let the glue dry.
