Pot of Gold Game

picture

A game easily adapted to the learning level of the child playing the game.

Adult supervision will be needed when creating the Pot of Gold.

This project is rated AVERAGE to do.

What You Need

  • White card stock
  • Board game (see below)
  • Playing pieces (see below)
  • Pot of Gold (see below)
  • Black permanent marker

How To Make It

  1. Create the Pot of Gold.
  2. Use only 2 gold pieces.
  3. Write on one side of the first piece the number "1".
  4. Turn the gold piece over and write the number "2".
  5. Take the second gold piece and write the number "3" on one side.
  6. Turn the gold piece over and either leave it blank or write the number "0". Note: If the child has learned to add higher, you can include a 3rd coin, thus increasing the difficulty.
  7. Print the game board:
For the PC(90 dpi) - For the Mac (72 dpi)
  8. Print the playing pieces:
For black & white printers - For color printers (72 dpi)
  9. Cut the playing pieces out as directed on the printout.
  10. Put the numbered gold coins in the Pot of Gold, shake and tumble out.
  11. Have the child add up the two numbers to see how far their playing piece will move forward.

Additional play variations:

  • For older children playing with the younger children: If you get an odd number when you add them up, you go forward that many spaces. If you get an even number, you go backward that many spaces.
  • The older child playing without younger children: Label one coin to have either a "plus" sign or "minus" sign on it, thus throwing this would determine how the child comes up with the answer. The same could be done for multiplication and division.
