BACKSTAB is an implementation of a board game commonly called Ataxx. It looks easy but is tricky to master. Play against a friend or the computer (at 7 levels from Moronic to Pretty Good).

Play on a 7x7 board (choice of 13 patterns and new ones can be created with Resedit) with red and blue pieces. Red or blue can start the game. Its objective is to end up with more pieces on the board than the opponent has. Move one piece per turn up to 2 squares in any direction to an empty square (you can jump a piece).

Moving one square replicates a piece on the new square. If you move 2 squares it does not create a new piece. After a move all the opponent's pieces in the squares around the new position change color. There is detailed help in the Apple Help menu.

It's easy to start playing this one but hard to beat the better computer opponents.
