PARAGRAPH POWER This game works on paragraph writing skills. Start by picking a type of writing skill to develop - Cause and Effect, Details, Examples, Reasons or Sequence. The program leads you through writing down ideas, then sentences and finally organizing them into a paragraph. Themes are suggested - in the demo there are 3 themes for each skill type. For example in Cause and Effect, the themes are: something that you depend on breaks down; a natural disaster in your community; moving to a new place or a new experience. The program leads you through the stages of writing about this theme. Work on the topic, pre-writing (notes), writing the topic sentence, writing the body (prompted by your notes), organizing your material, conclusions, various types of editing, proofreading and publishing. There are detailed suggestions to make your story more interesting to read, for example use of verbs that are more lively or nouns that are specific. Proofreading suggestions are very clear. The only flaw in the program is that full sentences are not visible in the paragraph summary, though they do come up in a window when selected for editing. This is an excellent way to develop your skills in writing. The program leads you through writing a type of paragraph on a particular theme, and makes it easy.
