We can count on Vivian Gordon to create wonderful versions of word games for the young - fun, with great graphics and enough different levels and hints to make solving the puzzles enjoyable instead of frustrating for beginning readers. She's done it again with Peekaboo Word Game. The game begins like hangman, with a mysterious word displayed with blank boxes for each letter, and the alphabet below. But beyond that, her program is quite different from the stick figure game I grew up with. The setting is with 5 children flying kites - when a mistake is made, one of them blows away. But there is also a covered picture of the word in question, and part of it is revealed with each miss. So the game becomes a vocabularly and spelling guessing game, too. There are actually many options to make the game fit your needs - 3 levels of word difficulty (in English), and you can also play with French and Spanish words. You can have the picture of the word fully revealed from the beginning - making the game a spelling review instead of guessing game. You can also have the picture remain hidden throughout the game, for a more challenging hangman game. You can also have the letters that belong to the word highlighted, and there is a clock that can be on or off, and has time adjustments. With a little attention, it is possible to adjust the game to fit the needs of almost any young child. The demo contains only 5 words - but the full version has 300 words! Recommended for children ages 4-8. Unfortunately, we can't seem to find Vivian Gordon at this time, so this is still fun to play with, but a full version is unavailable.
