Description:
ROMMY ROBOT is an on screen simulation of a programmable floor toy. It introduces kids to basic Logo programming in a very simple fashion. It has 4 variations, each of which gradually introduces more difficult concepts. Each version has a Demo button, to watch examples. The unregistered version only runs a program 4 times before it quits - just start it up again. The Simple Robot Grid shows a maze (on a visible grid) with a demo program on the side. The program consists of commands to move Rommy Right or Left, and Forward a designated number of squares. Run the program and watch Rommy navigate the maze, with relevant program commands highlighted. There are cute sounds while Rommy moves, including a breaking noise when he crashes. Make your own maze by clicking on the squares in the grid, turning them black or white. Then clear the old program and tell Rommy how to get through this maze. Enter commands simply by clicking Right or Left arrow buttons, and the Forward button and number buttons (or type them in). Test your instructions at any point by starting Rommy through the maze. If he crashes into a wall, fix the program and try again. The Robot Grid version introduces turns in multiples of 90 degrees, for example Right 180 or Left 270. Rommy Turtle adds in the Logo drawing commands, with demos of Rommy drawing a triangle, a square, a star and a face. In this version Rommy can turn by 1 degree. In Free Rommy, complex mazes can be drawn with standard paint tools. The challenge is then to tell Rommy how to navigate without touching the black areas, again turning by 1 degree. The download includes a User Manual and an excellent set of Worksheets. They range from blank Rommy grids (for working out maze instructions before trying them on the computer) to introductions to robot instructions for use of Repeat and User Defined Procedures. Logo programming has been around for a long time, and programmable maze movement is not new either, but this software uses both to provide kids with a simple, phased introduction to programming. I volunteered to teach an elementary school Logo course a few years ago and found that the younger kids had difficulty learning the concepts - this program and its worksheets would have met that need. This is a great way for kids of all ages to start programming! Download Details Requires: Filename: rommyrobotppc.sit, rommyrobot68k.sit Filesize: 800-1000 k Download Sites: [ HELP!
