Description:

YSPEAK is designed to assist speech-and motor-disabled users to communicate. It provides a variety of techniques which allow them to minimize input. It can speak typed input, in 25 different voices, either word-by-word, by line, by sentence, or when requested.

To allow someone else to read the text, YSpeak can display text inverted at the top of the screen. With an iBook display folded back, someone sitting opposite the user can read as text is input. To allow for a limited viewing angle, the text can be displayed in negative.

2 built-in Dictionaries can be used - one of the 1000 most-commonly used words in the English language, and one of over 25,000 words. With either Dictionary, as soon as the first 2 letters of a word are typed, YSpeak will display possible words in a separate window for selection.

Words are tracked as they are entered, and the program attempts to predict the next word, thus learning from the user. It has 5 separate word lists, each of which allows up to 35 words to be entered by typing a single key. Changing key lists is invoked with a single key.

To cater for users who may have difficulty with a standard keyboard, there is an on-screen keyboard, which can be accessed with any pointing device. A separate window allows the user to click on any one of 42 on-screen buttons, each of which speaks a user-defined phrase. These phrases can be input phonetically, allowing any language to be used.
