COLOR CONSTRUCTION

Use this download to demonstrate the concept of color subtraction, and how color printers (and color pictures in magazines) work. A good color printer will use four colors of ink to make color photos: magenta, cyan, yellow, and black (these are the primary subtractive colors). To get this point across in a concrete way, download these four images, each with one color. Print them onto transparencies. Put them on top of each other one at a time on an overhead projector, and the color photo will come to life.

Once unzipped, the separated color images are JPEG images. Print as transparencies for use. (Be sure to print one slide at a time and give them time to dry, as they smear easily). Use these color resources to teach about light and color at school, or to experiment at home.
