L3 INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT is a tool for both the professional and the amateur web designer. It is also an environment for teaching computer programming in high-schools and colleges. Most other animation technologies play the same "movie" each time. L3 is scriptable, which means that it can behave differently at different times depending on the situation. It is also compact and does not tie up the user's modem. To understand what can be done with L3, look at some examples of animated banners, a mini billiards game, or a beginning Japanese course! Use the L3 integrated development environment for L3 script development. When the script is ready, you can publish it on the Internet. An L3 file consists of scripts, and multimedia (sounds and graphics) resources. All these resources are compressed, encrypted, and packed in one archive file, which can be read by L3 players: either desk-top based or web-based. L3 displays information layered in multiple planes. Planes come in two flavors: a canvas, on which L3 can draw and write text, or an arena, on which sprites can move and interact with one another. L3 sprites can be created the fly, or can be imported, e.g. images from GIF files. Sprites can receive events - like collision with another sprite in the same arena, or a mouse event - and react to them. An L3 file can contain multimedia resources, such as pictures and sounds. In addition, an L3 script can read external multimedia resources -- either from a local disk, or from specified URLs. The download is fully functional for 3 weeks and then runs in demo mode, in which Save and Publish are disabled. Programming examples are included, such as writing with an animated pencil or a wheel reacting to gravity. Read the program comments and the script to understand how it works.
