Persistence / Try Try Again!
Ready Set Learn!
Break tasks down into smaller pieces. Setting a smaller but more realistic goal helps children to persist. First, value the child’s ambitious wish. Say: "What a great idea to build a whole city!" Then help the child identify and accept a smaller goal: "That is a huge project! We just have enough time for you to build one part of the city right now and we can do more another time. Where do you want to start?"
Try to focus as much on the effort the child put into something as on the finished product. This helps children realize that trying hard is the most important thing.

  Belief In Themselves
Every child needs to have success in some area to feel confident. Help your children find something they do well or work towards something they want to learn. Some children’s skills may be less obvious to them, so you can help point out skills such as listening, observing, understanding how someone else feels, or being brave enough to try something new.
Challenge negative outlooks. If children are blaming themselves or holding unrealistic or negative views about their abilities, help them see things more positively. It is important, though, to accept children’s negative feelings before challenging them to take a new perspective. Say: "I know you think you can’t tie your shoes. It’s hard to learn to tie your shoes, but you will be able to. It just takes lots of practice."
