When I first loaded Bubsy 3D, I thought it had to be an alpha version of the game. The graphics looked hideous, the controls were ungainly and the whole thing looked like a very early effort. However, this was no gold preview CD. It was the fully boxed, black CD, release version of the game. The sad truth is that Bubsy 3D is quite possibly the worst Playstation game I've ever come across.

The 3D graphics in Bubsy 3D are appalling. They're gaudy. They're remarkably technically unimpressive. The characters are uninspiring and the whole thing gives you a headache. To top it all, the game falls over itself to be 'wacky'. The gameplay is equally as dire. You kill enemies either by jumping on their heads or by picking up atoms and shooting them. The atom method involves running into an atom, picking your target and then shooting (you usually miss). After about ten seconds you just don't want to bother. The level designs are uninspiring as well. It can sometimes be unclear exactly how certain things will affect you, and sometimes it's not clear what you're supposed to be doing (despite numerous 'zany' arrows to point you in the right direction.) The two player mode is a joke. One player controls a gun and has to try and shoot the other player as he engages in a normal game of Bubsy 3D. It's probably the most humane thing to do.

The music and sound effects are OK, but by this point you'll have probably gathered that nothing's going to save Busby 3D. It's so desperately flawed in almost every respect that there really is nothing to recommend it to anyone. Stay away from this game. You may as well get your wallet out, grab a few crisp notes and set fire to them. If you want a 3D platformer on the Playstation try Croc.
