Description:

Barbie Totally Tattoos allows girls (or boys) to choose from four categories to make their tattoos: Cool Styles, Sporty, Favorites or Photos. Kids can listen to Barbie tunes while they design their temporary tattoos. They can create new temporary tattoo sets, or open and delete saved tattoo sets by clicking on the Back Pack.

Once your child selects their favorite theme, they can create customized tattoos by adding a background, stamps, special effects and by using the paint tools. Kids can even have Barbie design a tattoo for them in Barbie's Surprise Design Studio. If you already own Barbie Digital Camera or have other photos stored on your computer, they can be used in your tattoo design also.

Once a child's design is in progress, Barbie Totally Tattoos allows them to edit using Barbie Design Tools: the Tissue Box will undo the last change made, the Eraser will allow them to start over, the Magnifying Glass allows them to resize the tattoo, and the Page Layout lets them view what they've done, and make changes to tattoos already put away.

Included in the program is a Sliding Tile Game. One of the child's tattoos will be turned into a puzzle, and all the pieces are scrambled. Kids can slide the tiles around to discover which tattoo it is. An easy game to play while tattoos are printing or any other time they feel like it.

Printing of tattoos is done on special temporary tattoo sheets and then applied to special adhesive paper. There are five sheets of each included in the

Barbie Totally Tattoos CD-ROM package, refill kits are available on the World Wide Web at www.barbie.com. The Basic Refill Kit includes 3 tattoo sheets and costs $3.99. The Deluxe Refill Kit includes 6 tattoo sheets and costs $5.99. A $3.00 postage and handling fee, per kit ordered, is charged and some states must pay applicable sales tax.

Technical Aspects:

This program loaded easily;there were no glitches. Featured bright, vivid colors with fun, clear music, and was easy on the ears. Printing was a bit tricky to understand at first, but the Users Guide is very helpful. I just had to reread the instructions a few times and experiment to catch on to the two part assembly project. Below is an easy walk-through guide along with some hopefully helpful hints:D

ASSEMBLING

1. Run a test copy on regular paper. Very important! The temporary tattoo sheets are small and you want to make sure you have it lined up correctly. You might even want to cut a regular size piece of paper down to the same size to make absolutely sure you have your parameters set correctly.
2. Print onto the special temporary tattoo sheets included. They have one corner on them that is rounded. The User Guide will show you how to position the paper in your printer.
3. Let the tattoo sheet dry a few minutes.
4. Take a sheet of adhesive paper and peel back one of the adhesives. Apply printed side of the tattoo sheet to the open "sticky" side of the adhesive paper. HINT: I like to have the adhesive paper on the bottom, giving me more control over the positioning of the tattoo sheet:D
5. Remove the second adhesive strip and slowly lay down the rest of the tattoo paper. HINT: If you take a wooden ruler and hold the tattoo sheet up while gently sliding the ruler down the top of the tattoo paper the remaining tattoo paper will go down smoothly, without bubbles. Little hands will need help.
6. Cut out tattoos as close to design edge as possible.

APPLYING

1. Choose a spot without hair for best adhesion.
2. Wash and dry skin where tattoo will be applied. SKIN MUST BE DRY!
3. Remove adhesive side from cut-out tattoo.
4. Apply tattoo "sticky" side down on skin this will leave the back of the special tattoo paper showing, (you won't see the tattoo through the paper 'til it's wet).
5. Press down firmly on tattoo for 20 seconds.
6. Take a damp sponge and apply, slightly wet, to tattoo paper. You should see tattoo through paper now.
7. Remove tattoo paper from tattoo.

What will be left on the child's hand looks almost like a transparent bandage. The ink is between the child's skin and the tape.

REMOVAL
1. Temporary tattoos should not be worn for more than 24 hours and should be kept dry during wear (if they get wet, they come off).
2. To remove, lift one corner off the skin, and peel off. No signs of the tattoo should be left.

APPLYING TO BARBIE

1. Same steps as above. If adhesive gets left on Barbie, peel or rub off.

Report and Conclusions:

Barbie Totally Tattoos is a fun arts and creativity program for girls or boys (if they don't mind working with Barbie). Though I never thought my four year old son would be interested in the program, he loved it and so did his guy friends all the way up to 10 years old! Of course, they were in the privacy of my home LOL. The tattoo selection comes complete with fire breathing dragons, frogs, spiders, boats, soccer balls, boy and girl rollerblades, sweet ladybugs, horses, balloons, flowers, and much more. All the tattoos are in good taste, cute, and totally appropriate for the age. Kids will especially love being able to put their names on the tattoo or a short saying. It's easy to spend a few hours on this program and not even know where the time went. Some extra ideas for girls: apply tattoos to ears for earrings, on fingernails or toenails, apply to paper for fun custom stationary, or to decorate a paper binder. Let your immagination soar, BUT be sure to ask mom or dad first to make sure it is okay with them!!! All in all,

Barbie Totally Tattoos is lots of fun and sure to be a winner with Barbie fans. Just keep in mind that it doesn't take long to whip through the five tattoo sheets included in the initial CD-ROM package and it's a bit spendy to order more on a regular basis. Forget the basic refill kit... your shipping and handling cost as much as the paper. Go for the deluxe refill kit (6 tatto sheets) and pay $8.99, not including sales tax.
