Description:

Reading the encyclopedia has never been so much fun! Once you start browsing through the wealth of historical information presented on this program, you may find it difficult to stop, and instead keep linking to other articles of interest.

The original Eyewitness History of the World was published in 1995; Eyewitness History of the World V2.0 is an upgraded version, with historical content added up to 1997. The interface's ease of use is incredible, with users being able to hop from one area to another without getting hopelessly lost. New additions to this upgrade include over 700 new articles, 200 new biographies, a new Country History area, a back-tracking tool and a History Quest Activity. The opening screen is a cozy room complete with artifacts from whichever time period you happen to be in. You can choose from one of 10 historical periods to browse in, visit the Who's Who biography section, or search for a name in the indexes. There are also many other areas of interest that have been grouped together, such as an area on Innovations. Highlighted text in the articles will lead you to other linked articles that are pertinent, and if you want to go back, a Back-Tracker will lead you there. ,p.

Technical Aspects:

This program was easy to install, and there were no problems running it. The multimedia was impressive and illustrative, and the interface was a dream to navigate.

Report and Conclusions:

Being a history buff, I knew I would love this program, but after I played with...uhm, I mean researched it, I believe that everyone will like it! It is so simple to browse, and finding articles of interest has never been easier. I was really sold when I found that it was possible to go back to the startup screen after browsing several layers deep, just by clicking off to the side of the windows until the beginning screen appears again. Especially enjoyable is the new Country Histories, for those who always want to know more about the country a particular event took place in.

So, pop in the CD, kick back, and enjoy the ride!
