Description: Hot Dog Stand: The Works is a simulation program designed to teach students
the mathematical concepts behind running a business. Estimation, planning,
arithmetic operations, analysis and probability are among some of the problem-solving
skills that will be utilized here.
Running a hot dog stand at a busy stadium is no easy job! You will have to
decide what quantity of items to order, check the weather forcast, and choose
your prices. There is more than one company to purchase supplies from, too, so
be sure and shop around. To make your goal profit, you will need to plan
wisely, and think ahead. After each stadium event, you can check your results
and decide where you may need to make changes for the next event.
Features:
- 3 levels of difficulty
- Mathmetical concepts
- Teacher options (School edition)
- Very detailed classroom activites/worksheets(School edition)
Technical Aspects:
This game installed easily with no problems, and runs great without any hesitations.
The manual is excellent, especially for the School edition, which is priced at $70.00 US.
Report and Conclusions:
If you've ever played DinoPark Tycoon, you already have a good idea
of what this program is like. Basically, you are in charge of running
the hot dog business, and in the higher levels there are several
random events that you will have to take in stride, like a broken-down
delivery truck. Teachers can set up options of class games, levels,
and whether the program will calculate totals automatically, or whether
the student must do it manually; there are other options as well.
This is a great way to learn how math works in the "real world" and
how to plan ahead, a skill most of us could use some improvement in.
