Description:

This multimedia guide to world history brings a wealth of information to your computer with the click of a mouse button. The 3D dimensions allow you to wander the halls of history from Prehistory to Today, in an effort to create an immersive experience in each section of time.

Features:

  • Full-screen DVD.
  • 5,400 images, 7 hours of sound and over 900 animations.
  • Information and ideas for reports and research.
  • Search, copy, export and print text and images.
  • Add bookmarks and notes, search by picture or text.
  • Explore the world chronologically, geographically or thematically.

Technical Aspects:

Please note that in the system requirements, a DVD-ROM drive is needed. We found ourselves waiting quite a bit for the segments to load on our Pentium II - 300 Mhz with 48M RAM. It would be quite slow on the stated minimum requirements. The graphics are beautiful and the 3D environments are nicely done. Also, each era of time features music from that period, which is a nice touch.

Report and Conclusions:

IBM/Worldbook have outdone themselves this time! Where was this program a few years ago when I was struggling through World History in college?? The pictures and atmosphere this title creates will help make history come alive and that makes it all easier to remember!

I wouldn't go as far as to recommend that you install a DVD drive in order to run this program though - we're planning a feature on DVD soon that should help you make that decision.
