Description:

Jar Jar's Journey Adventure Book tells the story of the clumsy Gungan and his travels with Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Queen Amidala and Anikan Skywalker. The Adventure Book includes 14 pages of colorful, cartoon-style graphics and text that is read aloud by one of the Star Wars characters. Words are highlighted as they are read, so that children can read along. Underlined words on each page can be clicked to access the Singing Dictionary which provides a song about the word's meaning. Words that appear inside a box can be clicked to show synonyms. There are plenty of entertaining clickables on each page as well. Young readers can easily access their favorite pages to read again and again.

This title also features 6 games/activities: Jar Jar's Bongo Maze, R2-D2's Flashing Lights, Jar Jar's Coloring Center, C3PO's Picture Match, Fode & Beed's Crazy Creatures and Gragra's Food Finder. The Maze, Picture Match & Food Finder games each offer 3 difficulty levels.

Features:

  • Star Wars Episode 1 characters!
  • Read along book
  • Six games/creative activities
  • Reinforces reading and listening skills, problem solving, vocabulary, and more

Technical Aspects:

This title loaded easily on our Celeron 400 with 32MB RAM. We did encounter some technical problems while running the game the first time. There was some video corruption as we clicked through the Adventure Book, which finally froze on page 9 and would go no further. After restarting my computer, I accessed the onscreen Troubleshooting Guide and tried resetting my screen to 640x480 as it suggested. Problem solved! :) Therefore, I highly recommend checking your screen settings before play.

A helpful Adventure Manual is included with the program. It gives descriptions and directions for the Adventure Book and Games along with providing technical information and directions for accessing the onscreen Troubleshooting Guide or online Technical Support (cleverly entitled: Help Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi).

The box is an excellent representation of the program - it illustrates each game and the Adventure Book as well as showing the type of cartoon-style graphics used throughout the title.

Report and Conclusions:

My 5-year-old son loves this title! A great fan of the latest Star Wars movie, he was delighted to hear Jar Jar speak to him in that absurd, yet charming accent. (Yes, Jar Jar and Anakin's voices are done by the original actors; but, be warned, most of the others are not.)

Although the games are not particularly innovative, they did provide hours of enjoyment for my junior-jedi. They are mostly the standard coloring, matching and puzzle combination, but they are very well done. And children will enjoy being encouraged by their favorite Star Wars characters. The Adventure Book is quite clever and amusing - a sure success with any young child!
