Kid Speak (10-1 Language Learning)Reviewed by Cindy CaldwellPublished by Transparent Language
PC version requires: Mac version requires: Description:
When you choose which language you would like to learn at the start up screen, you will be greeted by a friendly child and their pet from that country. They will guide you through all the different sections to be covered, and there are a LOT. You have ABC's, 123's, birthday party, animals and the backpack section and each of these sections has a break down of their own, totaling over 40 games and activities for the children to do. Most of the activities are very basic and interactive for the children, and need little explanation if your child has some computer experience. Each language includes 12 printable worksheets to do while away from the computer. There is a catch, the program does not speak any English except the help section which can assist you along the way. The whole program is spoken in the language you are learning. This does not discourage the children, they are learning the language as they play. Kid Speak will grow with your child, having three levels of difficulty keeps the game very challenging. Some of the major skills covered in this program are: correct pronunciation, alphabet & word recognition (over 700 words), understanding simple sentences, using plural & singular forms, telling time and much, much more. Note: It is easier to learn new things when kids are younger and they will! You as the parent do not need to know the language they are using; just put in the game and let them go! Why not try on a new language yourself?
Features:
There is so much content, I can't list all of it!
Technical AspectsThis is the easiest program I have ever used. The whole program runs off the CD; you do not have to load anything onto your hard drive. What could be more simple? Kid Speak has the best graphics, just like watching a cartoon! We had no problems whatsoever with this piece of software.
Report and Conclusions:This was the hardest review I have ever had to do! There is so much to say about this program, I couldn't fit it all in. If I did it would probably end up being more like a novel, instead of a review. Does it sound like I love this program? Well I do! Being a computer teacher, I see a lot of software and it takes a great deal to impress me. Kid Speak is fun, educational and does everything it claims to do.My five-year-old is now going around the house singing parts of the ABC's in French and German, his two favorites so far. And the rest of us had fun sitting back and just watching my son learn. We had a lot of giggles--this program provides fun for everyone. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
