Description:

Knowledge Quest is an interactive, educational board game. At the start of the game, you choose the number of players, and how long to set the timer (or no timer). Each game consists of 60 questions from 5 catagories (you pick 5 of the 12). Each catagory then contains 12 questions, 3 each from 4 subtopics. After each question, the player can get more information about the answer. At the end, the player with the most points wins.

Features:

  • 1 player, 2 player, or 2 teams
  • Over 1,000 questions in 12 catagories
  • Reinforcement of classroom knowledge
  • Covers a wide range of topics (even though we had the science version)

Technical Aspects:

Installation was simple and there were no technical problems. Sound is limited to effects for the timer, correct and incorrect answers. The game is contained on a single floppy (comes with one for PC and one for MAC).

Report and Conclusions:

Knowledge Quest was designed as a teaching tool for use in classrooms and libraries. We played the Science Essentials (there are different ones). The teacher's guide says "grades 4 and up", but that isn't very accurate. Even with my college background, I missed about 20% of the questions, and the kids did much worse. This seems more geared at high school students and adults, rather than the younger grades. This may not be true for the other subjects (we only had science). It is a well-designed and easy to use program, and could be very useful in the right setting. I think it would be great for teams (and probably more fun also).
