Description:

Technical Aspects:

With autoplay, no installation is necessary. The animation is typical Tom Snyder, with cute, quirky characters. The interface is simple and easy to master. The hearing impaired can play easily, as the speech is in text as well as audio.

Report and Conclusions:

The Math Mysteries series is an excellent method of practicing word problems by showing how the key words make up the math equation. Students have to decide first what the question really is, then drag the important facts onto the "math pad" to solve the problem. Many children have difficulty deciphering word problems; this program will help take the "mystery" out of the process.

This particular title deals with advanced fractions, and demonstrates the various steps involved. The story line we didn't find as compelling or involving as the Measurement one, but the problems are as well done. Designed for class use, this title can be used at home as well, but should be paced slowly to get the full benefit. Problems can be shared with others at Math Mysteries Online. I recommend the Math Mysteries series to schools and homeschools.
