School House Rock 1st and 2nd Grade Essentialsis a simple programl for children ages 6-8. It features 2 cd disks packed full of activities that cover 2 years of school essential including mathe, reading, language,social studies and science. This is based on the ABC-TV School House Rock series that has entertained children for years. In this program the kids will walk through 8 activities that build math and science skills and 12 language, reading, and social studies skills. It has a rocking television that the kids can click on to hear their favorite SchoolHouse Rock songs. It has a print institute that has all kinds of printable goodies like games, puzzles, and individual projects.

Technical Aspects:

Installation was quick and easy. No problems with the program, run time errors or system crashes. Just put cd in the cd rom and go! The pull down TV is really neat; it plays over 17 different Schoolhouse rock videos including Conjunction Junction.

The box states that there are over 17 Schoolhouse videos and in actuality there are only 10 videos

Report and Conclusions:

This is a decent game, but many of the activities are boring and long. They are what my nine year old calls monotonous. The science activities are way over the head of any 6-8 year old and the math activities are way below the current educational standard. This program needs to be redesigned and brought into the nineties in order to hold interest and promote learning skills. The science activities are so complicated I couldn't even follow some of them. The key here is to help the child to learn, not put the child to sleep. The videos were lots of fun, though!
