Description:

Test for Success Age 11 Maths is designed to help students prepare for their Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11) assessment tests. With Seymour as their guide, children can participate in interactive lessons that demonstrate core concepts and also practice taking tests. The tests can be configured as to the amount of questions, the difficulty level, the type of questions and whether to be timed or not.

Features:

  • Over 1200 questions
  • Interactive lessons
  • Teacher/Parent options
  • Scoring and tracking
  • Clear presentation of material
  • Online help
  • Results can be printed

Technical Aspects:

The installation process was quick and presented no problems. There were a few lags now and then while running the game, but nothing serious. Seymour becomes very annoying after awhile, but can be clicked through by hitting the door knob in the introduction, and by clicking the forward button during the lessons.

The interface is wonderfully simple and easy to navigate. Hearing impaired users can use with ease, as questions are in text format.

Results and Conclusions:

This program was easy to use, and I liked the interactive lessons, which did a good job explaining the different concepts. The tests are well designed, and have a good variety of questions.

For U.S. users, I found the hardest level of questions to not be very challenging for 11 year olds. My daughter is 11 and in the 5th grade, and most of the questions were fairly simple for her. I looked up the standards for the different Key Stages in the UK, and believe that the Key Stage 2 is probably comparable to Grades 2-4 here in the U.S. and that Key Stage 3 is comparable to Grades 5-8.

A helpful tool in preparing children for standardized tests, especially if they've not been exposed before.
