Jump Start Toddlers by Knowledge Adventure is an edutainment title designed specifically for ages 18 months to 3 years. Parents, teachers, child development psychologists and pediatricians were consulted in the development of the program's content. The aim is to provide young children with an introduction to computer fun.


Giggles the Gopher will guide your child through eight play areas. When the mouse cursor wiggles, you've discovered a "fun click."

Notes

Jump Start Toddlers works with Windows 95 Autoplay, which is always a help. Additionally, my system is somewhat less than the listed requirements but there were no problems in running this title.

Comparisons

There are a number of programs targeted towards pre-schoolers. Fisher-Price, Hasbro Interactive and 7th Level all have excellent titles currently on store shelves. However, Jump Start Toddlers has a number of advantages: 1) the program uses bright, clear characters licensed to Knowledge Adventure by PlaySkool; 2) the mosue pointer works without being clicked - it only has to pass over objects to work; 3) the activities are age-appropriate and fun; and 4) the title incorporates music but also features games and animated clickables.

Reactions

My 2 year old son and 3 year old daughter consistently choose Jump Start Toddlers from the demo menu at a local computer store. Now that we have a copy at home, it's helping them both learn about taking turns and sharing. They love the music, playing "Peek-A-Boo," and playing Feed the Doggie. If you're looking for a "first" computer program for your tots, this is a "must-have" title.
