Description:

3-D Ultra Lionel Train Town is back with this Deluxe edition! Just like the original Train Town, there are tutorial jobs to teach you the ropes - er, I mean, tracks. Once you've learned the art of engineering, you can work your way through 10 wonderful and sometimes wacky worlds (yes, the aliens are still alive and well). Four of the worlds are brand new, along with a new track editor that allows you to set up your own layouts. You can even hook up your own train by choosing from over 45 locomotives and cars.

Features:

  • Tutorial jobs to get you started
  • More than 80 jobs in 10 worlds
  • Earn "blue ribbons" for best times
  • Design your own track layouts
  • Select cars and locomotives to hook up your own train
  • New options

Technical Aspects:

No complaints here! This title loaded and ran beautifully on our Celeron 533. The graphics, audio and interface are all first-rate!

Report and Conclusions:

My family loved the original 3-D Ultra Lionel Train Town and we love the Deluxe version, too!

However, you should note that the Deluxe version is not an entirely new game nor is it an upgrade. It is basically the original game with new content added. So, what's new? There are new options that allow you to select beginner or advanced modes or let you select between full screen or windows settings. The new Layout Tinkerer section on the Job Roster gives you 14 areas in which to create your own train layout. The Deluxe version also offers more jobs and new worlds. Of course, all of the new content is as fantastic as the original version!

If you do not own the original version, then you should purchase the Deluxe edition instead, definitely. For those of you who already have the original, the Deluxe version would replace it and offer you some new fun. $29.95 worth of new fun? Well, I don't know. It's a close call. I'll leave it to you to decide. In the meantime, I'm going to find out how many Cowsmonauts from Udder Space I can catch in a boxcar :-)
