Description:

Vowels: Short and Long helps students further their understanding of the structure of English words by exploring the role of vowels in words. Working with both short and long vowels, children gain experience in distinguishing the vowels' sounds and representing those sounds with regular spelling patterns. They then enjoy applying their knowledge of word patterns to create their very own rhymes and songs.

Move over Superman - here comes Vowel Man and he is going to make a reader out of you! What a wonderful program! I fell in love with it right away. First, there was the Technical Guide. Then there was Vowel Man. Next there was the fun and engaging activities. Could it get any better than this?! Yes! The directions were clearly explained on how to navigate the program both on the CD and in the Technical Guide. There is a Teaching Guide full of interesting ways to present the curriculum. In addition to this, the Teaching Guide offers ideas on how to conduct performance assessments to evaluate students' work and assess their progress on key skills. It provides a sample letter which can be sent home to parents; this tells them what the children are learning and lists some activities that they can do with their children at home to continue the work.

The company's website has a "Teaching Resource" area that offers ideas, activities and carefully selected Web links to integrate with your curriculum. It also acts as a forum for sharing your ideas and questions with other educators.

The possibilities are endless with this program. It is a great and fun way to learn about short and long vowels. b>Vowels: Short and Long would be a valuable teaching tool in any classroom whether the classroom is at school or at home. I highly recommend it.
