Word LaunchReviewed by Kim MoonPublished by Teacher Support Software
Description:
The graphics and premise of the game are very simple, which for many students would be a "plus" because their attention would more easily focus on the vocabulary words. Words are taken from word lists that must either be purchased from the company or imported from another TSS program called "Worksheet Magic Plus." The company offers many different word disks, such as Dolch words, high frequency words, or words from basal readers. Some of the offered basal series words are: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Houghton Mifflin, MacMillan/McGraw Hill, and Silver, Burdett & Ginn. Features:
Technical Aspects:The first CD received for review was flawed and would not run, but was replaced immediately by the professional TSS customer support staff. The program then installed and ran smoothly.Report and Conclusions:This program would be a good one for teachers needing to reinforce vocabulary words. The program is easily tailored to individual students. If I were considering buying vocabulary software, I would buy Worksheet Magic Plus (another TSS program) with this program because that allows the user to import any words instead of being limited to the word lists, which are available at extra cost from the company. The suggested age range (through eighth grade) is a little high, in my opinion. I believe students older than eleven or twelve could tire of the simple game long before then, having been exposed to so many games with all of the flashy "bells and whistles" so commonly included in today's software. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
