Detective Barbie Carnival CaperHints and Tips This is not a walkthru, because the objects have been mixed up each time and their placement may also be different, which makes it impossible to write down where any one object will be at any one game. Detective Barbie is not like the Humongous games of Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam, which are randomized by placing a few of the objects in different places for each new time you play. Here the clues may not only be in new places, but you may even have new clues that weren't in the first time you played, or the 2nd or the 3rd. However, I have written some hints and listed the hiding places that you may find objects in. General Gameplay Strategies When you begin the game, Barbie will be attempting to find where Ken is and who the Suspect is. She will be searching for clues and tools, and interviewing suspects. This game is very linear (each clue leads directly to another), and will move from location to location, determined by the nature of the clues found. Each clue found will be designated "hot", and will point to another location to visit for more clues. For example, if you found the ticket with the "ghost" picture on the front, you know that you need to go immediately to the Horror House to look for the next clues. Once you've visited the Horror House and picked up other clues, like the "hotdog" and "candy apple", you know you need to go to the Concession Stand next. When a clue has been acted on (you've visited the place it pointed to and picked up new clues there), it will turn "cold", and the new clues will be "hot" now. Because the clues always lead to another place in the Carnival to find the next clues, you will never need to just wander around and look for stuff. Also, because the Suspect is taking Ken all over the Carnival trying to hide him, the clues show where he's been last. So you will be finding clues in areas you've already searched because the Suspect has just been there. If you find a ticket that has a picture of a ride on it, go straight to the ride and get on it! You may see the Suspect running around.....listen carefully to Barbie describe where the Suspect is heading to. If you didn't understand what she said, immediately ride again before leaving, and you will see the Suspect again, and she will repeat what she said. When you get off the ride, go to where she saw the Suspect running to. If you see the suspect, follow and chase him or her! If you keep up with the Suspect, he will drop something important, but if you can't, don't worry because you'll be able to chase him again later. If you don't see the Suspect after the ride, just search the place he was headed to for more clues. You will also find tools that may be useful, but note that only ONE of these tools will be important later on. Go ahead and see what they open for practice later. When Barbie says to look for footprints to see where the Suspect is headed towards, be sure to look with your Magnifying Glass to follow them. More than one clue can be found in most locations, so don't leave until you've searched everywhere! And also remember that some locations have more than one room, and clues can also be found right OUTSIDE the location. For example, if you find a clue like the "magic wand" , you will need to search the outside of the Magic Show, the Stage area, the Backstage area (behind the curtain) the downstairs room and also the Magician's Dressing Room. Moving Around Moving Barbie around can be a little hard. Most of the time she will walk behind buildings, so just keep her walking straight to the right or left to the back of the screen. Secret passages will be discovered in the games, so you can use these to go from place to place later.
Hiding Places for Clues and Tools These are just some of the possible hiding places for clues/tools: Beginning of Game--wastebasket, bench Magic Show--audience seats, magic hat on stage Magic Show Backstage--magician's trunk, black stage light, top box in stack of boxes, middle crate in stack of crates Magic Show Downstairs--box on stairs Magic Show Dressing Room--rug on floor, under table, dresser, chest of drawers Concession Stand--both sets of drawers, popcorn machine Ticket Office--fridge, cabinet door, wastebasket Souvenir Shop--blue box, multi-colored wastebasket, brown bear on bottom shelf (be careful with brown bear, really easy to walk Barbie out the door at same time) Handyman's Yard--top of tire, on swan, bucket Handyman's House--green toolbox, behind bunny on chair Horror House--Crate at left wall, under blanket on chair, under witch's hat, clock, drawer, outside on the roof at far right end (have to walk to front of screen) Security Office--wastebasket, under jacket on chair, drawer under TV, cabinet drawer Clown Tent--wastebasket, bowling pin
Plus, any wastebasket and bench outside any of the buildings may be a possible hiding place, and sometimes clues are laying in obvious places like the floor and on top of desks, etc. Green handprints may point to clues, tools or secret passages. Flasing green means a clue and flashing pink means a tool (though in my game, the pink wasn't very easy to see). There may be more hiding places than just the ones I've listed, but if you follow each "hot" clue to what it's hinting at you will be going in the right direction. Be sure to click on each clue in Becky's computer, and listen carefully to her description of it. Good luck!
