Bill Nye: Stop the Rock

The following game hints and tips will help you Stop the Rock.

A. GENERAL GAME HINTS AND TIPS
B. RIDDLE CLUES
C. STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO SOLVE RIDDLES

A. GENERAL GAME HINTS AND TIPS

* Always answer when you get a NYECOM message.
* Pay attention to all the instructions you receive.
* Submit every discovery ("clue") to the rest of the team for feedback.
* Review what you know, and think about what you don't.
* Notice everything.
* Don't overlook anything as a potential clue.
* Don't give up, even when you're stumped! Instead, review the riddles again, and think about what you've learned so far.

B. RIDDLE CLUES

B1. Riddle #1 -- "When you can't stand the heat, where you can't take the pressure, prove there's a spot where life grows in great measure."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will tell you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "Hey, I've been pondering that riddle...a high-pressure riddle like this calls for high-pressure experiments--the kind you'd do at the Nye Labs Pressure Chamber!"

* The Pressure Chamber is good place to start to "press" onto this riddle. Choose from the objects on the shelves and put them into the chamber--close your NYECOM so you can work the controls, but open your NYECOM so that you can submit the objects as clues. The altimeter will help you put some maximum pressure on this riddle.

* The Morphmaster 5000 is a "rocking" place to find out about what happens under the Earth's surface. Submit your findings as clues, especially any data dealing with spreading centers.

* You can use the Sonic Net in the Ocean Comm Center to listen in on some pressure-filled underwater activity. Use the "continue" button to get a greater range of frequencies. Once you find some shaking activity, submit the image as a clue.

* Give the coordinates to Swell Whitecap on the Poseidon II, you can use the ship-to-shore satellite uplink to contact him. Just go to your right and hit the "contact ship" button. Once Swell has reached the destination, have him deploy the sensors. You can then launch the ROSE to get an in-depth view of the ocean. You can submit images on the ROSE screen as clues even when a description is given. You are almost on the hot spot!

B2. Riddle #2 -- "Send me the heart of a hot-headed giant that chills out fast. It eats oceans and lakes then strikes with a blast."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "I've been racking my brain about that riddle. Whatever it is 'eats oceans and lakes'...so it must be thirsty. Well, where there's thirst, there's water. Water you waiting for? Lead yourself to water!"

* Bill's hint may make you think you should go to the Ocean Comm Center, but that's a different riddle. How about going over to the Weatherator to see what kind of water conditions you can create? Submit the different conditions you come up with as clues before the hot-headed giant strikes you with a blast.

* Speaking of blasts, the VanDeGraff Generator is a striking device to teach you about electricity--there is sure to be a charged clue there.

* The Sky Lab is the next striking place to go, but you will need a password to enter. Connie Vection is the one to see and she likes hanging out in the kitchen. She's got a good nose for things cooking. Make sure you write the password down, you'll need it again.

* On the third floor of the Sky Lab is the SkyNye Control Tower & Weather Station--check out the weather and radar maps--remember to submit them as clues.

* Have Connie use the on-board equipment to test out the weather conditions. Sometimes Connie cannot be reached, so be patient. In order to chill this riddle out, it would be great to test the equipment on a storm.

B3. Riddle #3 -- "Bring me something that lives on Earth then blows up in the sky, where it never eats and doesn't die."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "Hey, I've been thinking about that riddle...'blows up in the sky'. Well, if it has something to do with the sky, go find Captain Connie Vection. She's an ex-Air Force pilot who's down with what's up!"

* Connie works in the Sky Lab and also in the SkyNye Control Tower & Weather Station. If you go to the Sky Lab, you can use the rocket launcher to launch probes to test different atmospheric conditions--be sure to submit the data that you collect as clues.

* If you haven't found the password for the Sky Lab, Connie will give it to you, but you need to be in the right place at the right time. Connie has been known to hang out in the kitchen on occasion. Go find her there and see if anything is heating up--she's into convection and there's lots of convection cooking in the kitchen. Make sure you write the password down, you will need it again.

* Go up to the third floor SkyNye Control Tower & Weather Station to send Connie out on the SkyNye Blimp of Science. Use the on-board equipment to have Connie check out and collect some sky samples.

* Go to the MicroLab to get a real close look at those samples, just click on the bottle she brought back and use the equipment to compare her findings with other specimens in the drawers. Remember to submit your findings as clues, you are about to blow this riddle away!

B4. Riddle #4 -- "Find a river that flows over mountains that are tallest. Here you'll find the largest living off the smallest."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "Now, let's see that riddle you chose...a 'river that flows over mountains'? Since it talks about 'the largest living off the smallest', well, maybe you should go look into small things...at the MicroLab."

* Check out the specimens in the drawers--what could possibly be the smallest?-- and remember to submit your findings as clues. There are some pictures of mountains in the lab, click on them to get a helpful hint.

* To sail in the right direction, go to the Ocean Comm Center and check out the different maps--maps can be submitted as clues. You can use the Sonic Net to detect the whereabouts of different underwater creatures. Although all the whales are interesting, you'll find the one with the hump most helpful.

* Give the coordinates of the sector that the whales are in to Swell Whitecap on the Poseidon II, you can use the ship-to-shore satellite uplink to contact him. Hit the "contact ship" button. Once Swell has reached the destination have him deploy the sensors--be sure to submit the data as clues.

* You can then launch the ROSE to get an in-depth view of the ocean. Submit images on the ROSE screen as clues even when a description is given. You're really flowing now!

B5. Riddle #5 -- "Discover a beast that ate fish by the sea and flew like a hawk. It wasn't a bird and now it's a rock."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "About that riddle...it says that 'now it's a rock'. Well, no one rocks more than that rockin' rockman Sam Andreas...I'll send him down."

* Sam's rock collection in the prop room is a rockin' good place to start. Now, Sam can be kind of wacky, he wants you to get a close-up look at the Matterhorn picture across from his table before checking out his collection--probe all the rocks and whatever else you may find hiding on the table--be sure to submit this rockin' stuff as clues.

* The Fossil Lab is also a rockin' place to find out more about those old bones. If you are having trouble assembling the T-Rex, drag out the fossil scanner and check out the creatures as x-rays.

* Once you get the T-Rex built and identified, go the Tectonics Bay and use the Nyesmograph to measure the earthquake. You need to get a precise measurement in order to locate the quake on the Fault Finder. Sam will let you know when you get it right.

* Once you've located the epicenter on the Fault Finder, Sam will go out to that area and investigate--be patient--Sam is known for his long detours. Investigate the rest of the Lab or check out the great quakes of history on the Fault Finder while Sam does his investigation.

* Sam will find some interesting bones at one of the areas that you send him--go back to the Fossil Lab and check them out.

* Put those bones together and you will be well on your rockin' way to help stop Impending Dume!

B6. Riddle #6 -- "Find a sleeping dog with a churning stomach. When it shakes, it awakes. When it barks, you bake."

NOTE: This is the last riddle to solve, you'll need the answers to all the other riddles before you'll be able to solve this one.

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "Now, I've been thinking about your riddle....'a sleeping dog with a churning stomach'. Well, the only dog around here is Pavlov, the Dog of Science...and he does like to eat..."

* Once you have figured out the other six riddles, Bill will ask you to come to his office--he has some important information for you.

* When you record the seismic data, be sure to write down the information that Sam gives you--go to the Morphmaster 5000 and enter the code.

* You and Bill will fly out on the SkyNye Blimp of Science to find and rescue Sam. Follow the instructions that Sam sends to you.

* If you need help finding Sam, follow these directions to get to him: Go forward until you come to a split path, then take the right. Follow that until you get to the glacier, take two steps forward and then take a left. Go to the black rock and take a right. Go up the little steps and then take a left and go forward.

* As soon as you find Sam and he gives you his message, do a quick 180 degree turn and head back to the Mt. St. Bernard sign--the Blimp will pick you up there.

* The answer is in the Blimp, submit it to Maax A.S.A.S.P. before you become part of one big Bar-B-Que.

B7. Riddle #7 -- "Unlike you with food, we do not deal, but we are able to make a light meal."

When you get your NYECOM for the first time, Bill will ask you to pick a riddle. Even if you have solved other riddles, hit the "see my clues" button and Bill will give you a start-off hint. "What is a light meal?"

* It will take some serious thinking to get your science growing in the right direction. If you get stuck, try entering the Sky Lab through the third floor entrance for a sprouting hint.

C. STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO SOLVE RIDDLES:

C1. When you first enter the Nye Labs it is best to Join the Laboratory. In the Join the Laboratory mode you will have full use of your NYECOM 3000. After you have played for a while then start again and choose Just Hanging Out. You will get a good idea of the differences between the two modes this way.

C2. After joining Nye Labs and meeting with Bill in the conference room, the first thing you MUST do is get a NYECOM 3000. The game is not very playable without having one. In order to get a NYECOM 3000 follow the instructions below.

C3. After the checking out the riddles the meeting will end once the meeting is over you need to head out of the conference room. Move your cursor to the bottom of the screen and click, this will move you back away from the table. Next move the cursor to the right hand side of the screen and click when the arrow points to the right. This will turn you so that your are facing the door. Next click straight ahead twice so that you are in front of the door and then click on the door handle to open it. This will open the door and take you outside of the conference room.

C4. Now that you are out of the conference room you need to head towards the elevator. Move the cursor to the left hand side of the screen and click when the cursor points left, this will point you in the direction of the elevator. Next click straight ahead twice the elevator will now be on your right. Move the cursor to the right hand side of the screen and click when the cursor is pointing right. You will now be facing the elevator.

C5. Now that you are facing the elevator you need to get in the elevator and go down to the basement. Click the call elevator button. The elevator will open up and you will walk into the elevator (complete with elevator music). You will need to turn around to click on the basement floor button. Move the cursor to the right or left side of the screen and click when the arrow turns into a turn around arrow. Click the "B" button to go down to the basement. When you reach the basement the doors will not automatically open. Click on the handle in the middle of the elevator doors to open the doors.

C6. Now that your down in the basement you can retrieve a NYECOM 3000. Go straight one click. Next turn to your left and go straight one click. You are almost there. Now turn right and go straight one click. The NYECOM's are on the shelves to your right so turn right and click on the box labeled "NYECOMS." Go ahead and pick any NYECOM in the box. Once you get the NYECOM Bill will speak to you. After Bill is done speaking and your done looking at the riddles, click on the Info button and Moody will explain all about the NYECOM 3000.

C7. One last piece of advice. Always answer when you get a NYECOM message. Bill explains how the different devices work through these messages.

C8. By this time you should have a pretty good idea how to maneuver around. The next feature you should check out is the Probe on the NYECOM 3000. Head over to Sam's Rock Table in the basement and probe each of the rocks by moving the probe over a rock until it starts blinking. Once it starts blinking drop the probe and you will receive a description of the item. There are many objects throughout Nye Labs that can be probed.

C9. While your getting used to the layout of Nye Labs it is a good idea to use the map often. The two yellow dots on the map show where you are within Nye Labs the smaller dot shows the direction in which you are pointing.

C10. Well now that you have a good idea how to move around and how to use the NYECOM 3000 we need to get started on some of the riddles. The information which follows will help you to quickly and efficiently solve the seven riddles. Of course this means that you will not be covering every part of Nye Labs. It is recommended that you reenter Nye Labs just to hang out later to look around at some of the other equipment. The first thing to know about the riddles is that riddle number six is not solvable until the other riddles have been solved so don't waste your time with this riddle at the beginning.

C11. There are two riddles that will take some time to solve so you need to get the ball rolling right away with riddle numbers one and five. The first thing you should do is go to the Ocean Comm Center. Use the map on your NYECOM and the building diagram on the back of the manual (the manual is located inside the jewel case) to find the Ocean Comm Center.

C12. Inside the Ocean Comm Center go to the Sonic Net. Find the location of the earthquake and then contact Swell Whitecap and send him to the earthquakes coordinates. Swell Whitecap will let you know when he gets there so you can go off and do other things while he is on his way.

C13. Next you'll need to go to the Fossil Lab and assemble T-Rex. You should use the Fossil X-Ray machine to find out where the bones for T-Rex go. Once you have T-Rex assembled you will need to identify it with the X-Ray machine. Find the picture of T-Rex and then click on the Match button. Once you get confirmation that you have built T-Rex correctly there will be an earthquake. You need to go to the Tectonics Bay quickly to find out about the earthquake.

C14. In the Tectonics Bay the first thing you need to do is measure the distance to the earthquake, use the NYESMOGRAPH for this purpose. Bill will tell you how it works. Next use the Fault Finder to pin point the exact location of the quake. Bill will tell you how this works too. Once you have pin pointed the epicenter Sam will send you a message telling you that he is going to go check out the site. You now have Sam working on your second riddle. Swell Whitecap won't be at the underwater earthquake site yet so let's go and solve another riddle. Swell should contact us while we are working on this next one.

C15. We are going to start working on the third riddle. Take a moment and look at the third riddle through your NYECOM. In order to solve this riddle we need to get into the Sky Lab and in order to get into the Sky Lab we need to get the password. We can find the password in the Kitchen. Put a pot of boiling water on the stove and after Connie Vection tells you about heat convection Bill will give you the password.

C16. Once you have the password then go to the Sky Lab. Use the entrance on the third floor to the Sky Lab. Right in front of the door to the Sky Lab on the third floor Bill will talk about the answer to the seventh riddle. Submit the tree as a clue and Bill will tell you how to solve the riddle from there.

C17. Now you have one riddle solved and six to go. Go through the door to the Sky Lab so you can continue to work on the third riddle. Go and sit down in front of the equipment on the desk. You need to get Connie Vection to take an air sample by using the Sky Vac through the On Board Equipment. Before leaving Connie though we need to get her working on Riddle two. Turn on the Radar Map and the Weather Map. You will see a yellow dot on the screen. Submit the yellow dot as a clue to the second riddle. You will get a message from Connie telling you that she will go and check it out. Now that we have Connie working on the second riddle we need to continue to work on the third riddle. Go down to the Micro Lab to check out the air samples that Connie provided.

C18. If you get a message from Connie telling you to go to the Sky Lab A.S.A.S.P (that's As Soon As Scientifically Possible) ignore her for the moment until we get to the Micro Lab and finish with the third riddle. Once in the Micro Lab sit down at the Ultra Scan Viewer and match the samples in the drawer with the samples in the first bottle. When you find a match for the red bug submit it as a clue. Bill will tell you to submit it as an answer for the third riddle. You've now solved two riddles with five to go. You should receive a message about now from Swell Whitecap telling you he is at the coordinates you sent him to. Let's head down to the Ocean Comm Center and check it out.

C19. Once you get to the Ocean Comm Center contact the ship. Swell Whitecap will tell you that he is waiting for your orders. Have Swell launch the R.O.S.E. If for some reason Swell will not launch the R.O.S.E just tell him to do it again until he launches it. Once the R.O.S.E. is launched back away from the map and head over to the R.O.S.E. controls. Make the R.O.S.E. dive. When the R.O.S.E. has reached the bottom you will see a picture of volcanic activity and Bill will tell you that you have found it and go on to describe the activity. Open up your NYECOM before Bill finishes explaining what is going on and submit the picture on the screen as a clue for the first riddle. Sue Nami will tell you to submit the answer to Maxx. By the way if you want you can skip submitting the screen as a clue and submit it as an answer. You don't have to submit any answer as a clue first, it just makes good practice. Now we've solved three clues and have four left to go. We should head up to t!
he t
hird floor of the Sky Lab and see what Connie Vection is up to.

C20. At some point you should be hearing from Sam Andreas. When you do and he asks your opinion on where to search have him check out the Limestone Cliffs. Once your in the Sky Lab go back and sit down at the equipment on the desk. Click on the On Board Equipment and take a look at the Storm Corder. When Bill is done talking about the Storm Clouds submit the picture as a clue to the second riddle and then after Bill talks to you submit the clouds as an answer to Maxx.

C21. By this time you should have heard from San Andreas telling you that he found some bones and sent them to the Fossil Lab. Let's go down to the Fossil Lab and check them out. We may have the answer to another riddle. Once you get to the lab assemble the bones into a Pteranodon. Once you have built the Pteranodon make sure to match it with the X-Ray machine. Once Sam has talked to you submit the Pteranodon as a clue to the fifth riddle. After Bill has told you what he thinks submit the Pteranodon as the answer to the fifth riddle.

C22. We've now solved five riddles and have two to go. Let's go to the Ocean Comm Center to solve riddle number four. Go to the maps and contact the ship. Once you have contacted the ship you will need to click on the button for the Ocean Floor. Once the map appears for the Ocean Floor submit Hawaii as a clue by selecting clue on the NYECOM and then clicking near Hawaii. Next select the Plankton button. Once the map appears for Plankton submit Hawaii as a clue by selecting clue on the NYECOM and then clicking near Hawaii. Next select the Currents button. Once the map appears for the Currents submit Hawaii as a clue by selecting clue on the NYECOM and then clicking near Hawaii. After you have submitted all three maps as clues for the riddle number four go over to the Sonic Net and search for Humpback Whales. Once you have found a Humpback whale submit it as a clue for riddle number four. Now go back over to the map and select the Ocean Floor map submit Hawaii as a clue again. S!
ue N
ami will tell you that you have the right answer so submit it to Maxx.

C23. After solving the last riddle Bill will call you on your NYECOM and tell you to come up to his office. Hurry up, what are you waiting for? Once your in Bills Office another earthquake will happen, just follow Bills instructions and go down to the Tectonics lab and found out where the quake originated. Remember you will need to use the NYESMOGRAPH and the Fault Finder to pin point the quake. Remember you will know when you have set the NYESMOGRAPH correctly because Bill will send you a message telling you that you have set it correctly. Once you have pin pointed the quake with the Fault Finder you will receive a message from Bill and some data from Sam Andreas. Take the data from Sam and enter it into the MorphMaster 5000. Once you have entered the data into the MorphMaster 5000 and have pressed go you will see a Volcano explode. Next you will receive a series of messages the last one is from Bill telling you to go to the Launch Pier. The Launch Pier is located in the Sky !
Lab on the first floor (the one you are on right now.) Remember you will need to enter your earlier password to get into the Sky Lab and th
en your new password to get out onto the Launch Pier.

C24. Bill will take you and drop you off to search for Sam. In order to find Sam follow these instructions. Go straight five times. Next take the right path through the canyon. Next go straight three times then make a left turn. Next go straight once and then make a right turn. Next go straight five times and you should be at the Basalt. Now just look around and you'll find Sam. After you find Sam you'll have to search around to find the Mt. St. Bernard sign. When you find it Bill will drop a ladder for your rescue. Now hop on the ladder. Once your inside the blimp Bill will tell you he wish he had an answer for the last clue to submit to Maxx. Click on the Maxx button on the NYECOM and submit the Mt. St. Bernard sign as the answer. There you go you save the Earth, now sit back and enjoy the glory.

C25. Now that you have saved the Earth go back and just hang out and Nye Labs and look at some of the other interesting equipment.
